Maj. Nancy J. Barron (Ret.) of Orlando, Florida (formerly of Scottdale, PA) went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2023. She proudly served her country in the US Air Force as a nurse, teacher and the first Aerospace Nurse, scheduled to be the first woman in space, until the Apollo tragedy changed the course of space travel.
Nancy graduated from Scottdale High School with the class of 1951, Annette School of Nursing, and followed with Bachelor and numerous Masters Degrees throughout her career in the Air Force.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, Parsons M. and Agnes (Carnack) Barron, a sister, Beatrice B. House, and a niece, Darlene (House) Redman. Surviving are a brother, James R. Barron of Scottdale; a sister, Mary Lou Kelley, formerly of Smithton; two nieces: Deborah Lee (Kelley) Merta and husband Frank, Denise (House) Zundeland and husband John; great-nephew, Donald D. Redman, Jr. and wife Maria.
Friends will be received in the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May17, 2023, the time of her funeral service with Pastor James Myers, officiating. Interment to follow at Green Ridge Cemetery, Connellsville with full military rites and honors being accorded by the AMVETS General George C. Marshal Post #103 of Hopwood, PA.
