Michael Stephen Hvasta, 64, of Fairfax City, Virginia passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024. At the time of his passing, Michael was surrounded by his family.
Michael was born in Somerville, New Jersey on January 23, 1960, a son of John Hvasta and Helen (Loya) Hvasta.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, John Hvasta.
Michael graduated from Washington-Lee High School, Arlington, Virginia in 1978. He received a scholarship to Pratt Institute, where he thrived studying architecture. Michael received many accolades and awards in art and design during his early years in Arlington, VA.
Michael was gifted with a wonderful intellect and bright sense of humor. Unfortunately, from his early 20's, Michael also suffered from the ravages of mental illness.
Our dear brother Michael is survived by his mother, Helen M Hvasta of St Augustine, Florida; siblings: Paula, of Orlando, FL, Mark of Mississauga, Ontario, and Marianne of St. Augustine, FL.
Michael’s family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. in the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home & Crematory, 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa.
A Parastas will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
A 10:00 a.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, August 24, 2024 in St Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 112 Railroad Street, Perryopolis, Pa by Rev. Oleh Seremchuk and clergy of the family. Followed by a graveside service at Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
