Eleanor Clem Obituary

Eleanor Conn Clem  July 2, 1930, November 22, 2024. born to the loving union of Russell Harry Conn and Laura M. Carson Conn. She was a devoted wife to Ralph Eugene Clem for an incredible 49 years, and her journey through life was marked by the loss of cherished family members, including her brothers: Donald & Clora Conn of Idaho and Harry & Vivian Conn of Star Junction, PA; her sisters: Evelyn & Donald Claycomb of Dawson, PA and Wenetta Grim of Smithfield, PA; brother in law, James Forsythe  of Perryopolis, PA;  daughter in law, Susan Clem of Columbus, OH and son in law, Zachary Gray of Largo, FL.
Yet, her spirit lives on through her beloved sister, Shirley Forsythe of Perryopolis, PA, and Eleanor's children: Richard Clem of  Gahanna, OH, and Peggy Gray of Largo, FL. Eleanor's legacy is further enriched by her three grandchildren: Timothy Gray and his wife Jaime of Louisville, KY, Jennifer Booth and her husband David of Columbia, SC, and Michele Gutterson and her husband Scott of Merritt Island, FL; along with ten great-grandchildren who carry forward her love and values.

Raised in the small town of Vanderbilt, PA, Eleanor's early years laid the foundation for a life of hard work and dedication. Her first employment was at a sewing factory in Connellsville, PA, a testament to her industrious spirit. Following her marriage on March 22, 1949, she and Ralph eventually settled in Layton, where she continued to contribute to her family and community by working in a coat factory in Perryopolis. It was during the early years of motherhood that Eleanor encountered the transformative gospel of Jesus Christ, embracing Him as her Savior and dedicating her life to serving God. Her unwavering faith was evident in her many years of teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, as well as her diligent service in counting offerings and maintaining giving records at Flatwoods Baptist Church for over 35 years. Eleanor's commitment to her faith community was profound, as she faithfully attended Flatwoods Baptist for more than 55 years. In her later years, she found joy in serving at the Senior Center in Perryopolis, where she not only engaged in activities but also shared in Ralph's passion for bowling, forming a team with fellow seniors and delivering meals to those in need, and serving on site committee. Embodying the spirit of love and service that defined her life.
