Samuel Frederick Pope

June 14, 1932 ~ May 2, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


Samuel Frederick Pope, age 84 of Perryopolis, Pa, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 with his loving family by his side at Uniontown Hospital. He was born on June 14, 1932, (Flag Day) in Connellsville, PA a son of Walter Pope and Mary (Smiley) Pope.

He was an active member of the First Christian Church, Perryopolis, PA. where he served as an elder for many years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife of 64 years, Marian Louise (Kubina) Pope who passed away on December 17, 2016.

Samuel is survived by two daughters:  Pamela Sendek and her husband Alan, and Cynthia Tucker and her husband Thomas all of Perryopolis, PA; grandchildren: Ryan Sendek and his fiancee Linda Cosner of Chesterfield, Missouri, Erica Lyn and her husband Neil of Weston, Florida and Lauren Tucker of Pittsburgh, PA; sister, Rosemary Mongell and her husband Anthony “Joe” of Connellsville; many sisters in law and brothers in law; nieces and nephews; special friends Glenn and Joanne Orr of Ohio.

Samuel served his country proudly in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Anchor Hocking for 42 years as an Electronic Mechanic Group Leader. He was a Past Master of Gummert Lodge #252 in Fayette City and was a Past Master of the Perryopolis Grange. His hobbies included building and operating remote controlled model airplanes. He was also an avid gardener who enjoyed starting vegetable plants from seeds and distributing vegetables throughout the neighborhood and church.

A special “thank you” to the wonderful staff at Hillside Manor for the outstanding care Samuel received.

Samuel’s family will receive friends on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME, 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA. Additional visitation will be held the following day (Saturday) at the First Christian Church next to the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m. the hour of the Funeral Service with the Rev. Melissa Snyder officiating.

A Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7 PM on Friday by the Brownsville Masonic Lodge #60 F&AM.

Interment will follow in Mount Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis where full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Goldstar Post 7025.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the First Christian Church, 307 Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA 15473.
