Robert Allison Farquhar

Robert Allison Farquhar age 73 of Perryopolis Pa, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 at his home.  Robert was born on May 10, 1944, in New Eagle, Pa, the son of Dorothy (Warren) and Robert Farquhar.  Following High school, he attended California University of Pennsylvania where he majored in Chemistry and took a Master’s in Psychology.  He then joined the Faculty of Belle Vernon Area High School where he taught Chemistry and Psychology  for 33 years, retiring in 1999.  In June 1966, Bob’s life changed forever when he married Margaret (Peggy) Hawker.  She has made him all he was to become by her steadfast love and assistance.  He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America for several decades, where he served as a Cub Master, Webelos Leader, Scoutmaster, District Training Chairman, and District Roundtable Commissioner, Council Triple-T Training Chairman, and Merit Badge counselor.  In these various positions, he earned three Scouter’s keys, the District Award of Merit, the Scoutmaster’s Award, and the Distinguished Commissioner’s Award.  He also attended Woodbadge Training and then served on Woodbadge Staff, earning his third bead.

   Robert was also a very active Mason, being initiated into the Fraternity in 1997 at Gummert Lodge No. 252 in Fayette City, PA.  He rose through the Chairs to become Master of the Lodge in 2001.  He then was elected Secretary of the Lodge and earned the Past Secretary jewel.  He was a dual member of the Scottish Rite Valleys of Uniontown and Pittsburgh, and served as the Thrice Potent Master of the Valley of Uniontown Lodge of Perfection.  He was Coroneted a 33 Degree Mason in 2009 in Philadelphia.  As a member of the York Rite, he was a member of Masonic organizations such as: United States Premier Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, Royal Order of Scotland, McKean Commandery No.  80 Knights Templar – Recorder and Past Commander, Illustrious Knight of the Triangle, Gateway to the West Council No. 5 Knight Masons, Monessen Royal Arch Chapter No. 164-Past High Priest/Monessen Order of the Eastern Star, Washington Council No. 1 Royal and Select Master Masons – Past Thrice Illustrious Master and Order of the Silver Trowel, Washington-Green Scottish Rite Club, officer of the Golden Triangle York Rite College No, 32 (elected Governor May 2017). Philalathes Society-FPS, Roland C. Fisher Mark Lodge No. 401-Secretary Joshua Association, Knight Preceptor,  Syria Shrine, Syria Provost Guard-Past Secretary, Syria Temple Gun Club, 31st.  District Blood Chairman 2000-2001, Past Sovereign Master of Mon-Valley Council No. 330, Allied Masonic Degrees-Red Branch of ERI/Valley of Pgh. 31st.  Degree cast, Tall cedars, WA-CHA-GREE Forest No. 149 – Past Grand Tall Cedar, Knights of Mecca, Pgh, and Knight of York Cross of Honor.  He was most pleased, in his Masonic career, to be appointed District Deputy Grand Master of the 31st Masonic District, a job he really liked because he got to meet so many great members of the Lodges and the Grand Lodge.  After serving 8 ½ years he retired as DDGM in May 2017 due to illness.  He will truly miss the wonderful fellowship and friends he had in the Lodges and Organizations.

Bob was also very happy to be inducted into the National society of the Sons of the American Revolution in 2016, and is also a member of the State and Local (Gen. Arthur St. Clair Chapter) affiliates, thanks to the diligent and dedicated work of his wife, Peggy.

Robert was a member of the Little Redstone United Methodist Church, in which he had served on several committees.

He is survived by his loving and supportive wife, Peggy, the wind beneath his wings, without whom all the above would not have been possible or as enjoyable.  Also surviving are his two wonderful sons, Robert, II and Heath, who have brought much joy and happiness into his life and his really great Grandson, Ethan Robert, who has been a continuing and constant joy to his life and hope for the Future.  He is also leaving behind his younger Brother Ben (Colonel, US Army Retired) who is and always has been his true life hero, and his wife, Margaret.

Robert’s family will receive friends on Thursday, September 14, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA. where a Masonic Funeral Service will take place at 7 p.m. and a Knights Templar Service will take place at 8 p.m.
