Margaret "Peggy" Laughery Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” Gardner Laughery was released from this life on Sunday, Aug 4, 2019.  She was surrounded by loved ones, at her home in Lemont Furnace, as she made her way to Heaven.  She will celebrate her 63rd birthday with Jesus on August 16th.  Peggy was a 'pistol' and a precious, unique soul throughout her life.  Until the last couple days, she was 'pure Peggy!'

Our Peggy loved her husband, Sam, her family, and her friends.  She cared deeply for people, in general, showing kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, and empathy to others every day.  Peggy's heart and goodness went out to anyone in need or hurting.  Among her many jobs, she worked as a dental technician and home health aide, where she went beyond her duties to show compassion and care for those who needed it most.

No animal, ever, escaped Peggy's attention and affection.  No matter how flea-infested, injured, or frightened they were, Peggy loved, fed, and rescued them:  Dogs, cats, birds, goats, turtles, even a hedgehog:  No animal was unlovable to her.  Peggy was a gracious host to people, too.  There were no strangers to her, only friends she had not yet met.

Her husband, Sam, loved her dearly, as she did him for nearly 40 years.  Peggy was a great cook and spoiled Sam with sumptuous dinners and 'never-any-leftovers.'  Sam pampered Peggy too, in many other ways, especially her 'QVC-ing.'  Peggy had an artistic but homey decorating ability, and she made their home 'a welcome nest.'  Sam treasured Peggy and drove to Pittsburgh every day for over two months to care for and encourage her while she was in Mercy Hospital.

Peggy's siblings looked to her as their 'rock.'  Her sister sought her advice, talked with her daily, and thought her to be 'their angel.'  They always had a special bond.  Her brothers teased her, bossed her, and comically cut her beautiful long red hair when they were small, but loved her, made her works of art, and stayed 'close' in adulthood.

Peggy was born August 16th, 1956 to Bobby and Vera Raley Gardner in Connellsville Hospital.  They resided in Layton.  Her father, Bobby died in 1971.  Herb Vance later married Vera and made a good home for Peggy, her siblings, and her new blended family.  She graduated from Frazier High School with the class of 1974.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her doting husband, Sam Laughery;  her adoring siblings, James (Debbie) Gardner, (Lawrence) Pete (Cindy) Gardner, Terri (Gary) Humbert, Herbie (MaryAnn) Vance, Cindy (Grayden) Basinger, Debbie (Chuck) Bates, Jennifer Coddington;  her 'other' sister, Betty Jane (Laughery) Mrozek;  her 'children', Jimmy (Cindy) Anton, Tonya (Bobby) Luckey, Jamie (Joe) Kline, Rick (Patty) Laughery, Brandon (Justi) Laughery;  her 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren;  her many special nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors;  and her much-loved fur babies, Trixie and Gabby.

Peggy's family will welcome friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA, where a celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Walls, officiating.
