John Bodnar, Jr. Obituary

John A. Bodnar, Jr., age 81 of Perryopolis, PA, formerly of Lemont Furnace, PA, passed away at his home on Monday, March 5, 2018.  He was born on June 3, 1936, in Uniontown, PA, the son of John A. and Josephine (Bezek) Bodnar, Sr.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann (Bordash) Bodnar and a sister, Barbara Solesky.

John is survived by the following: a daughter, Karen McPhaul and son-in-law, Chris McPhaul, grandchildren; T. J. McPhaul, Molly McPhaul and Grace McPhaul all of Bethesda, Maryland; a son, Dr. Brian Bodnar, daughter-in-law Cinny Bodnar, grandchildren Kaiya Bodnar and Cole Bodnar of Alexandria Virginia; a brother, James Bodnar and sister-in-law Paula Bodnar of Uniontown, PA; a sister-in-law Norma Bordash of Perryopolis, PA. and a significant other Flo Fagan.

During John’s lifetime  he was a  member of the following organizations:  St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church; Slovak Catholic Sokol, Knights of Columbus, Fish and Game Club, Perryopolis Water Authority and St. John the Baptist Choir.

He was a warehouseman for Wetterau Corporation, formerly Fox Grocery, as well as a barber.

John was an amazing father to Karen and Brian and grandfather to his five grandchildren who adored their “Pappy”.  He was a suave dancer, a gardener and prolific garlic grower!  More than anything else he loved to laugh and to make others laugh. To say he lived with joy is an understatement!  He will be greatly missed.

John’s family will receive friends on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA, where Prayers of Transfer will be said on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.   Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, PA.  Father Anthony Ditto and Msgr. Lawrence Kiniry will con-celebrate the mass.  Interment will be private.
