Eugene Loya Obituary

Eugene Loya loved and served his God, Family and Country. He was born in Portage, PA on July 6, 1936 to the late Rev. Stephen and Margaret Loya. He was one of seventeen children in a wonderfully large and priestly Byzantine Catholic family. He passed away Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring in St. Augustine, Fl.

Gene is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Nikolette Medvigy Loya. They were blessed with four sons, Victor (CO), Alex (PA), Gregory (FL) and Peter (2017). He is also survived by his brothers, Andrew, Theodore, Rev. Daniel and Lawrence; sisters, Helen (Hvasta), Anna Jane (Petty), Kathy (Killian). He was loved by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his brothers, Stephen, Frances, Paul, Rev. John, Joseph, Timothy, and sister, Mary (Najeski).

A true and proud patriot he served his country in the United States Navy.

Eugene’s family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA. A Divine Liturgy of the Deceased will be celebrated by Father Oleh Seremchuk and clergy of the family at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 12 Railroad Street, Perryopolis, PA. Eugene will be laid to rest at Mt. Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA with full military rights and honors being accorded by the George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, PA.  

A Parastas Service will be celebrated on Friday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Donations may be made to the Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh or the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great in Uniontown.
