The pre-arrangement process here at the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, Inc. is a fairly simple process for those who are considering on taking care of their final wishes so that their loved ones are not left with that burden. More and more people each year are pre-arranging their funerals than ever before.
First, we have a form that we fill out that has all the vital statistics for the death certificate, and all the special wishes of that individual, including all the necessary contacts when that time comes. All obituary information can also be given if one decides to, but we also check to see that all the family information is correct when the time comes.
Next, if one decides to, they can pick out their casket, vault, and clothing if necessary.
Sometimes, an individual might decide to leave the choosing of these things to whoever is in charge, whether it be their husband, wife, children, etc.
One option that we find most of our families choose, with regards to pre-paying for their funerals, is setting up a burial trust / burial reserve CD in their name (not the funeral homes name) with their social security number and it is entrusted to the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, Inc. One might ask what exactly is a burial reserve? A burial trust / burial reserve CD is a certificate of deposit that is taken out for the longest period of time where the individual will receive the best interest. This CD is not like the typical certificate of deposit because if one should pass away before the maturity date there is no penalty for early withdrawal. The bank that we use at this particular time has these accounts set up so that they are irrevocable. This means that these monies can not be taken out by anyone for any reason, for example if one goes into a nursing home and their finances have been depleted, this money can not be touched. At the time of their demise we take a copy of the funeral invoice and a copy of the death certificate to the bank and they will pay us and whatever monies are left over go directly to the person or persons in charge of the final affairs of the deceased or to the estate of.
Other options that one might have to pay for their funeral is with insurance policies that can be assigned to the funeral home. The same policy applies to insurances in regards to any monies that are left over are sent to the person or person in charge of the final affairs of the deceased or to the estate of.
If one decides not to pre-pay for their funeral expenses with a burial reserve / burial CD
We also accept all major credit cards, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Bank Debit Cards.
