Joseph "Babe" Henry Schimmel

March 17, 1937 ~ October 4, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old


Joseph Henry “Babe” Schimmel, age 79, formerly of Waltersburg, passed away Tuesday evening, October 4, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 17, 1937 in Charleroi a son of Ernest Schimmel, Sr. and Mildred Sutton Schimmel.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Schimmel, Jr. and a nephew, Jeff Spaw.

Babe started Route 51 Auto Wreckers along with his brother, Ernie and continued operations for over 40 years. He loved the outdoors, hunting fishing and gardening. He was also an avid stamp and coin collector. Babe served his country in the Army. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Babe is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Wanda Ann Boniar Schimmel; two daughters: Lisa Stash and her husband Scott of Vanderbilt, Michelle Kelley and her husband Dennis of Mt. Pleasant;

Grandchildren: Taylor Stash, Jordan Stash, Devon Halterman, Jillian Kelley; brother, Norman Spaw and his wife Cindy of Fairchance; sister in law, Dolores Schimmel of Uniontown; special nephews, Brett Schimmel and Kurt Schimmel.

 

Babe’s family extends a special thank you to the Scottdale Amedisys Hospice and Nursing Team and the South Connellsville Personal Care Home staff.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Scottdale Amedisys Hospice or Parkinson’s Foundation.

Babe’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2016 in the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 with Pastor Michael Lyons, officiating.

Interment to follow in Cochran Cemetery, Dawson, PA.
