Carmela (Consales) Cordisco

July 1, 1937 ~ October 28, 2015 (age 78) 78 Years Old


Carmela Cordisco, aged 78, passed away the morning of October 28, 2015, at Novant Health Medical Center in Haymarket, Virginia.  Surrounded by her loving family, she succumbed to the cancer she had been valiantly fighting for seven months.

Carmela was born on July 1, 1937 in Mondragone, Italy to Salvatore and Matilde Consales.  In 1960, at the age of 23 she moved to McKeesport, Pennsylvania to live with her Uncle.  She worked at the G.C. Murphy Co. while attending Beauty School and taking classes in English.   After finishing Beauty School, she opened a Beauty Salon in East McKeesport, Pennsylvania. In 1965, Carmela married Boris R. Cordisco.  They moved to Brownsville, Pennsylvania where they raised their three children.  After their children were grown, Carmela and Boris moved to Perryopolis, Pennsylvania in 1994.   They moved to Gainesville, Virginia in 2014 to be closer to their daughter.

Carmela was active in the Catholic Church, and her family was her passion.  She was a devoted wife and mother until the very end and will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband Boris R. Cordisco, Sr. of Gainesville, Virginia; her three children, Boris Cordisco, Jr. and his wife Shelly of Miami, Florida; Irma Marie Leary and her husband Michael of Gainesville, Virginia; and Gino Cordisco and his wife Caroline of Mars, Pennsylvania.  She has five grandchildren, Ethan Cordisco of Miami, Florida, Joshua and Jacob Leary of Gainesville, Virginia and Julia and Luke Cordisco of Mars, Pennsylvania.  She is also survived by her brother, Domenic Consales of White Oak, Pennsylvania, sister Vittoria Castigliani of Rome, Italy and sister Maria Consales of Caserta, Italy.  She has three nieces and two nephews living in Italy with their families and one niece living in the White Oak Pennsylvania. 

Carmela’s family will receive friends on Monday, November 2, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, Inc., 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa. where a Prayer Service will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church at 10:30 am with Father Anthony Ditto as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Perryopolis, PA.

A Rosary will be held at the funeral home on Monday afternoon at 3 pm.
